Lotabeg House — Recovering a Lost History

This website began as a simple attempt to understand how the history of Lotabeg House and its connection with the Galwey family, had become almost entirely lost.

The Galweys owned and developed the Lotabeg estate for more than two centuries, yet their history is largely absent from modern accounts of the house.

As our research progressed, we discovered that much of the confusion arose from the neighbouring estate houses, some sharing the same or very similar names. Over time, their histories had become entangled, and families associated with one house were mistakenly connected with another.

To recover the history of Lotabeg House, we first needed to understand these other houses, where they stood, who lived in them and how their stories became confused.

Our purpose is simply to give Lotabeg House back its own history, reconnect the Galwey family with the estate they owned, and restore the other families to their rightful places in the neighbouring houses.
